Hello Beautiful Community,
Do you want to use your art for social change?
Do you want to be part of organizing for a more stable, affordable bay area?
Then come 'round the bonfire this Monday, 10/15, 7:30-9:30 pm.
We, The Bonfire Makers, and our collaborators Rebecca Novick and Olive Mitra have created a theater toolkit to spread the word about Proposition 10, which will give voters the opportunity to #RiseUpForRentControl this November. Join us for dinner and and an interactive performance to learn more about how you can take our toolkit to help organize your folks for more stable, affordable neighborhoods.
WHAT?: Come for dinner & an interactive evening of discussions, monologues, songs, and more that folks can remix, collaborate with, and otherwise take from to spread the word to pass Prop 10.
Feel free to bring drinks, desserts, or snacks to share -- especially something that you connect with the feeling of home.
WHERE?: At a home in Oakland. RSVP and we will pass along the specific location.
WHO?: This is for artist-activists of all stripes and ages who might like to stage performances, disruptions, parties, and more to support local organizing for Prop 10. You can also come if you like dinner, performance, and want to connect with others around visions for a more a just Bay Area.
HOW?: Please RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org so we have enough food to feed you! And so we can give you the address.
ACCESS?: This event takes place at a residence with scented products and a cat. The event can be accessed without stairs but does not have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Parking in the neighborhood is tight, so we encourage biking, ride sharing, carpooling, all the things if you can.
WHY?: Artists have played roles in the gentrifying of neighborhoods, and have also been affected by the runaway unaffordability of cities without adequate rent control. Many of us have felt the squeeze, and we all have neighbors who have. Spreading the word about Prop 10 and voting yes on 10 in November are direct and simple ways that we can plug into ongoing organizing efforts for housing justice in the Bay Area and beyond. Thank you to ACCE (Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment) & all the other folks throwing down for our communities every day.
We hope to see you there!
with love and in struggle,
The Bonfire Makers,
Andre, Tierra, Sonia, and Sango
